Getting married on the Salt Flats is always a spectacular thing, but usually that's true because of the blue sky contrast with the blinding light of the sheet of salt, the cracks and the contrast, it's like the only place on earth, literally, where you get that scene. But this week, in the middle of a soggy winter, there was 1-3" of standing water on the Flats, which made the view and the function a little bit different, even more unique in a lot of ways than the standard. As a non-denominational minister and professional wedding officiant, I'm lucky to get to participate in once-in-a-lifetime weddings like this under circumstances like this, where it literally looked like we were walking on water for the wedding ceremony. Of course, boots/galoshes for me instead of the regular wedding officiant suit and shoes, but small price for an unforgettable wedding like this.
