Lots of weddings represent the start of a life together for two young people, headed into the abyss, but some weddings are different from that. Some weddings mean the blending of two families. Mom and dad, kids and pets. This wedding ceremony had just that, and I was asked to oversee a unity ceremony that incorporated a puzzle, each piece representing an individual in the new makeup of the family. Husband, wife, and six kids from two separate previous marriages. And the symbol is powerful and meaningful because a wedding like this represents the marriage of two families, the combining of 8 lives, and the joining of a path for all of them. Totally optional, but really powerful actually with many tears shed, mostly from the kiddos, as the parents stood across from each other and vowed to walk through this world together.
